About Worship...
Bethel regularly offers two worship services every week - at 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays and 10:00 a.m. on Sundays. Additional services are held at certain times of the year, including Lent, Easter, Advent and Christmas. All worship services include hymns and worship songs, Bible readings and, a sermon message. The Sacrament of Communion is offered at nearly every service.
Worshipping at a strange church can be a little intimidating, and we make a special effort to make all our visitors feel welcome. As you enter the sanctuary, an usher will hand you a worship folder or "bulletin". This includes the entire order of worship for the service---including the hymns and songs, the Bible readings, instructions for when to stand and sit, and the sermon theme. The service is easy to follow using the information contained in this folder. Services are about an hour to an hour and a quarter long.
Visitors are never singled out. You will not be requested to stand up, wear a nametag, or do anything that might be embarrassing. If you wish, please register your attendance as a guest and let us know that you attended worship with us. A guest book is located in the east entryway. We leave it up to you to participate as much or as little as you feel comfortable doing.
Seating
There is plenty of seating available in the sanctuary, and you may sit almost anywhere you like. However, there may be special occasions where a row or two of reserved seats are set aside for a special activity. In such cases, the ushers will rope off the reserved seats before the service.
Special Needs
Bethel makes every effort to accommodate the special needs of worshippers. Special amplification devices and large-print bulletins are available from the ushers. There are also "cut-out" areas near the front of the sanctuary to accommodate wheel chairs.
Children
Children are always welcome to worship. It is important to us as a Christian community to have children of all ages participate in our services. Young children in worship may have active moments, but it is their birthright as Christians to worhsip, and we welcome their presence.
For our younger worshipers, we offer "Busy Bags" containing small books, crayons and toys for quiet play. Please ask an usher for one and return it at the end of the service.

Super Sunday School begins September 13!
Meet at 9:40 a.m in the Santuary
Children of all ages are welcome, along with their families.
A VBS-like lesson will take place between
The children will stay in the sanctuary until the opening hymn. The children (ages 3 years to 6th grade) will then go to the Sunday School classrooms where they will learn more about the lesson they heard in church through crafts, games, science, or music. They will rotate classrooms so that each child will be able to participate in every activity. Leaving the sanctuary is optional. If you would prefer that your child stays with you, that is okay. There will still be a children's sermon from the Pastor. At approx. 10:45-10:50 the children will return to the sanctuary and remain there with their families until the end of the service.
Please join us in expressing joy at having children worship with us and join us in giving prayers and thanks to God for each child's presence.
Communion
Children may receive communion after they have attended first communion class when they are in the fifth grade, or if they come from a church where they have already been receiving communion. Children not old enough to receive communion are invited to the altar for a blessing.
Bethel also has a staffed nursery where children may spend the worship time. Feel free to leave your child in the nursery for the entire service or take him or her there for part of it.
Holy Communion
The Sacrament of Holy Communion is offered at nearly every service. If you believe that Jesus Christ is your Lord and Savior, you are welcome to share in this holy meal. No prior permission from the church is necessary. However, participation is not required. Please feel free to either receive or decline the sacrament as a matter of personal conscience. Instructions for participating in Holy Communion are announced during the service. Simply follow the instructions of the ushers.
We serve the wine using individual cups. In the center of every tray are several cups of white grape juice for those who cannot drink wine.
Offerings
Bethel does not charge admission. We pass an offering plate during the service in which our members place their gifts and tithes for God's work at Bethel and throughout the world. As a guest, you are not expected to give an offering if you do not wish to.
The Church Coffee Hour
Every other Sunday immediately following the 10:00 a.m. service, we have coffee and snacks in the lobby area. Please join us for this fellowship.
Dress
You may be wondering how you should dress to attend worship at Bethel. We try to model Jesus' behavior and welcome you as you are. Dress in the way you feel most comfortable, including anything from jeans to business casual to suit and tie.
Learning More About Being a Christian...
If you are concerned that you do not know enough about the Bible or about what Lutherans believe and teach, we have good news! You do not need to know everything about Lutherans or about the Bible to attend our worship services. If you have questions or would like to find out more about the faith, consider attending the membership classes we offer on a regular basis. Talk with the pastor about your questions or schedule an appointment to find out more.
Bethel is active in proclaiming the Gospel around the world. While it is centered in Rolling Meadows, Illinois, with members in several communities immediately surrounding it, it has a heart for missions and supports mission work on six continents.
The Bethel family is made up of people who appreciate and enjoy worshiping, learning, serving, praying, and being together. The Bethel family is eager to help you to find the place where you fit in best; where you can grow along with the rest of our family of faith.
